Single stream was to start in June but has been delayed until the fall. The trucks that are picking up single stream recycling are taking it to their plant to sort. I hope this information helps. In Surrey, you no longer need to separate your recycling into bags. You just put it all in 1 bin, newspaper, plastic, everything. Since this change I have found we and neighbours are recycling more. All of us have got our new larger recycling bins. So why not separate? The new company takes all of recycling and ships it to China where a company pays people to manually separate it and then reuse it (which is eventually shipped back to us). The City of Surrey supposedly saved a ton of money on paying for recycling pickup because of this change from the previous recycling company they used. The first question is an interesting one.
